The first trailer was released back in November and didn’t really tell us much regarding the story and raised confusion as well as anticipation as a distressed looking Storm Trooper without his helmet plus a medieval looking lightsaber with a cross guard. Not to mention the fan-tastic moment of the Millennium Falcon in flight assisted with theStar Wars theme blasting out.
The first scene revealed is of a fallen emperors ship from the original trilogy to which a narration from what sounds a lot like Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in those films. He speaks of his family which hints towards his children being involved in the film. An image of a damaged Darth Vader helmet follows. This shot is then followed by flashing images of familiar characters and items often associated with the series such as R2D2, and a lightsaber being passed between two people. The saber does look familiar to Anakin Skywalkers, but time will tell on that one.
The trailer then changes pace by showing scenes of a war previously shown in the first trailer. In this you can see ships speeding across some sort of water in battle whilst the pilot bears a uniform similar to the team that destroyed the Death Star in the original trilogy. The helmet-less Storm Trooper also reappears out of costume hinting at a possible disguise in the previous clip. He is shown running away from an explosion with the new football-shaped R2D2 as well as a character who resembles a Padme from the second trilogy. Could this be the Skywalker children perhaps?
As the fallen helmet of Darth Vader has been revealed already, questions arise after a scene showing storm troopers surrounding a Darth Vader lookalike, with the red lightsaber, dark clothing and a helmet which looks the same. He also strikes a pose which indicates the force is being used that fans know, hinting towards little nods towards past films. In the background of this shot there is fire and destruction showing evidence of a battle previous. However the next clip shows Storm Troopers preparing for battle and about to possibly march, in front of a red and black flag. Could this be the sign for a new Empire? The red used is typically the colour of the dark side’s lightsaber and the black is the usual clothing for members so this is a strong possibility?
The ‘new’ Darth Vader is featured in another brief shot, this time sporting a gun and a cape over one shoulder. This could possibly be the same person with the medieval lightsaber in the original trailer or it could be the original Darth Vader himself, however the figure of this Vader is too thin as to the classic being a bit more bulky.
The trailer finishes with the first glimpse of a classic character in the form of Harrison Ford reprising his role as Han Solo and his famous companion Chewbacca, the Wookie. The clip shows Solo smiling declaring “Chewie, we’re home”. It is not indicated as to what they mean by ‘home’ as this could be a planet, being back with the Skywalker family, or possibly a battle, seeming as they spent most of their time in the original trilogy battling the emperor.
So that is the second trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film due for release December 18th and I’ve tried to brake it down the best I can but what do you think? What do you see in this trailer? Anything I didn’t see? Comment Below!
